Over-the-Counter Medicine Policy Update

The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) has updated its policy regarding the administration of over-the-counter (OTC) medications.
Effective for the 2025–2026 school year, OTC medications (such as ibuprofen and acetaminophen) may no longer be administered to students at school without BOTH:

1. A written order from a licensed medical practitioner, and
2. Signed parental consent.

This change is part of a statewide effort to ensure student safety and consistency in school health practices. If you have any questions, please contact your school nurse or school administrator.
